Voice
Working in a place where your voice is your tool requires you to communicate or speak to a costumer for almost 8 hours straight, everyday. Try to remember that your voice is the only thing a customer can “see”. Its important that you keep a pleasant and “smiling” voice.
Clarity
Clarity means enunciation each word so that is heard clearly. Not enough clarity and you’ll sound mumbled and slurred; not enough clarity and you’ll sound bored and disinterested.
Speed
Speak too quickly and your words will run into each other, making it difficult for the customer to understand. Speak too slowly and you’ll sound bored and disinterested.
Tone
Always sound professional. Never let your voice make it like you are tired bored sarcastic or condescending.
Pitch
Pitch is the “high-ness” and the “low-ness” of your voice. Pitch is what makes a question sound like a question and not a statement. You sound whiny with too much pitch and monotonous without enough.
Volume
This is how loud you talk. All you need is a natural speaking volume.
Preventive Maintenance for the Voice
• Drink plenty of liquids.
• Avoid exposing vocal chords to extreme cold and prolonged periods of shouting.
• Try to identify possible sources of voice problems that may damage the quality of your voice.
• Work to correct any voice problem before it becomes an even bigger problem.
